One of our regulars is a Northwestern Crow (Corvus caurinus) whom we affectionately call “Damien.” Damien and Mrs. Damien can often be seen together, usually on a wire, fence or other higher perch. For a relatively large bird by backyard standards (30 inch/77 cm wingspan), they seem a bit skittish, often fleeing only a shadow in the window and staying at a safe distance until they are quite certain its not an ambush.
These two always seem frustrated by the fact that our feeders are only songbird scale, foraging along the ground beneath the feeders. Even when we put out corncobs (when we can prevent the squirrels from taking it all) they seem cautious. Here is Damien caught by the Birdcam.
