Keep your eye on the Sparrow

Song Sparrow

These little guys started it all. At some point, a year or two ago, a small flock of these Song Sparrows (Melospiza melodia) made their home of some bushes in our front yard and few of them even nested in a space under our eaves. They would descend on our little lawn and forage, scattering like the wind whenever we came outside or someone happened by on the sidewalk.

Since we could see them so well from our front windows, I decided to put up a tube feeder which was soon frequented by our sparrow flock. Soon many other visitors followed including the little nemesis we call Wally the Squirrel. Several other feeders followed along with a small birdbath.

It seems only fitting that these little guys would be the first “visitors” on our blog. Enjoy.
